(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) James O’Keefe announced on Twitter to his audience that he was sued by Project Veritas again midday Thursday — one day after the company ceased all operations.
The former Project Veritas founder filmed himself retrieving the lawsuit from his front doorstep, as it was shown in footage that was posted to Twitter on Friday. O’Keefe said that “a colleague happened to be nearby and took a video of the door” after he heard “loud banging,” adding that the colleague did not answer the door.
“A lawsuit. They’re suing me. The company that I founded,” O’Keefe said while he was reading the documents that were left at his doorstep.
O’Keefe then explained to his audience that the reason why Project Veritas made a decision to sue him was because of the company’s financial struggles.
“When I left, there was something to the effect of between six to eight million dollars cash on hand. They’ve apparently spent all of it, raising almost no money at all since they ousted me,” he said.
Project Veritas ceased all operations on Wednesday because there was no money left. This led to six staffers, including all remaining journalists and one development associate, being laid off.
“In the interest of preserving the possible future existence of Project Veritas we need to put operations on pause and, as communicated since the Spring, another Reduction in Force (“RIF”) is necessary,” the company’s HR director Jennifer Kiyak said.
In the video, O’Keefe also added that the documents were “a summons in civil action” from “United States District Court” for a lawsuit titled “Project Veritas vs. James O’Keefe.” Jay M. Wolman, Counsel at Randazza Legal Group in Connecticut, would represent the plaintiff.
“We’re not sure what these attorneys have to say for themselves, participating in an effort to silence journalists and get a federal judge to issue an injunction to shut me up and to shut all of you down. It’s unclear what Randazza and Jay Wolman are thinking,” he said.
The first time when Project Veritas sued O’Keefe was in May in federal court in the southern district of New York, according to the Daily Caller.
