(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) The House Freedom Caucus shocked conservatives with the abrupt announcement of the removal of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., from its leadership.
Speaking to Politico, Freedom Caucus board member Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md., revealed that Greene’s derogatory remarks against Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., were “the straw that broke the camel’s back.” Harris also cited Green’s staunch support for Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., as another reason for the ousting.
Harris stated, “A vote was taken to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from the House Freedom Caucus for some of the things she’s done.”
Last month, Greene engaged in a highly publicized feud with Boebert over a dispute on competing impeachment resolutions against President Joe Biden. During a House floor debate, Greene reportedly told Boebert, “I’ve donated to you, I’ve defended you. But you’ve been nothing but a little bitch to me, and you copied my articles of impeachment after I asked you to cosponsor them.”
Notably, Greene has been a staunch ally of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, even supporting the Biden-led Fiscal Responsibility Act, which raised the debt ceiling to President Biden’s preferences.
While Greene did not directly address the reported ousting, she stated that she represents the interests of her voters. “In Congress, I serve Northwest Georgia first, and serve no group in Washington,” she said in a statement obtained by Politico.
She further added, “The GOP has less than two years to show America what a strong, unified Republican-led Congress will do when President Trump wins the White House in 2024. This is my focus, nothing else.”
When contacted by the Daily Caller for comment, the Freedom Caucus declined, citing internal policy regarding the non-disclosure of internal processes. The caucus, which currently has 36 Republican members, is well-known for its influential role in shaping conservative policy within the House of Representatives.
Politico reported that Greene will be barred from attending future caucus meetings.
