(Ken Silva, Headline USA) The Washington Post published a tell-all story Monday about the Justice Department’s ongoing investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill protest and alleged 2020 election interference—strongly suggesting that Donald Trump will be indicted over these matters in the near future.
Indeed, the punchline of the Post’s roughly 7,000-word story came at the last paragraph, when the publication revealed that two pro-Trump state officials from Nevada appeared in front of a grand jury investigating J6 last Tuesday—the same day Trump pled not guilty in his classified documents case.
The Post suggested that the officials’ grand jury appearance was related to Trump’s plan to use alternate electors to challenge the results of controversial results in Nevada, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Arizona.
“Michael McDonald and Jim DeGraffenreid, the chairman and vice chairman of the Nevada Republican Party who had signed a document claiming to be electors for Trump, entered the area of the D.C. federal courthouse where a grand jury has been meeting on cases related to Jan. 6,” the Post reported.
Most of the Post’s story is focused on explaining why DOJ officials were supposedly reticent about charging a former president. According to the article, the DOJ declined to investigate Trump’s alleged election interference in February 2021, and the FBI did not open an investigation of the electors scheme until April 2022.
“The Justice Department’s painstaking approach to investigating Trump can be traced to Garland’s desire to turn the page from missteps, bruising attacks and allegations of partisanship in the department’s recent investigations of both Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election and Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server,” the Post reported.
However, conservative observers pointed to a more likely culprit to why the Trump investigations only started in earnest about a year ago: because that’s when the DOJ was finally staffed with Biden toadies.
“The Biden DOJ and its allies spent years pushing the FBI to go along with it. The FBI did not join that probe until April 2022,” noted journalist Daniel Greenfield.
Greenfield focused on a paragraph of the Post’s article, which said the decision to charge the Oath Keepers with seditious conspiracy “was slowed as the Biden Justice Department waited months for Senate confirmation of senior leaders.”
In other words, “The Biden DOJ needed more political operatives on board to further weaponize the Justice Department and the FBI against its political opponents,” Greenfield said.
