(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., torched President Joe Biden’s unwillingness to hold debt ceiling negotiations, expressing his frustration over what he perceives as the White House and the far-left’s stonewalling tactics.
In a fiery post on Twitter, McCarthy accused the “socialist wing” of the Democratic Party of controlling Biden. “The White House is moving backward in negotiations,” McCarthy said Saturday. “Unfortunately, the socialist wing of the Democrat Party appears to be in control—especially with President Biden out of the country.”
McCarthy’s statement alluded to Biden’s ongoing trip to the Saturday G-7 Summit in Japan. The president is expected to return to Washington on Sunday, reported CNBC.
“Unfortunately, the White House moved backwards,” McCarthy told reporters Saturday referring to the ongoing debt ceiling talk, also adding, “I don’t think we’re going to be able to move forward until the president can get back in the country.”

At a press conference in Japan, Biden dismissed concerns about the debt ceiling, saying he was “not at all” concerned about a potential default.
The debt ceiling, however, has become a contentious issue between the GOP and Democrats. The Biden White House previously refused to meet with Republican leaders if they attempted to use the debt ceiling as a bargaining chip to decrease the nation’s debt and rein in wasteful government spending.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned Congress and the White House that the federal government could run out of funds to pay its bill as soon as June 1. In turn, she has held closed-door meetings with Wall Street bankers to discuss the potential effects of the default amid the June deadline.
Several GOP lawmakers have reacted negatively via Twitter to Democrats’ unwillingness to control the debt.
Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., accused Democrats of reckless spending. “The Left’s number one priority is to make the public dependent on government handouts,” he said Saturday. “That’s why it’s vital that we pass work requirements included in the House debt ceiling bill. Every able-bodied adult should have a job and all the benefits that come with it,” the Florida senator continued.
Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., echoed Scott’s concerns about tackling the debt, calling on the government to act on China, which he said is “one of the biggest drivers” of the debt and job losses in the U.S.
On the House side, Rep. Beth Van Duyne, R-Texas, slammed Biden, accusing him of “playing games” and refusing to work towards prevent a debt default.”
