(Headline USA) Comedian Chris Rock said this week that Democrats are “stupid” for wanting former President Donald Trump arrested, warning that an arrest would only make the Republican 2024 candidate “more popular.”
Rock made the comments during a Washington, D.C. event honoring actor Adam Sandler. There were several prominent Democrats in the audience, according to reports, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
“Are you guys really going to arrest Trump?” Rock asked. “Do you know this is only going to make him more popular. It’s like arresting Tupac. He’s just gonna sell more records. Are you stupid?”
The comedian went on to riff on the circumstances of Trump’s potential indictment, which stems from his affair with porn star Stormy Daniels.
“[Trump] f—ing a porn star and paid off someone so his wife couldn’t find out. That’s romantic,” Rock said. “We’ve all been cheated on. Don’t you wish that the person that cheated on you paid off somebody so you wouldn’t find out?”
Trump revealed over the weekend that New York City officials were planning on arresting him on Tuesday.
“NOW ILLEGAL LEAKS FROM A CORRUPT & HIGHLY POLITICAL MANHATTAN DISTRICT ATTORNEYS OFFICE, WHICH HAS ALLOWED NEW RECORDS TO BE SET IN VIOLENT CRIME & WHOSE LEADER IS FUNDED BY GEORGE SOROS, INDICATE THAT, WITH NO CRIME BEING ABLE TO BE PROVEN, & BASED ON AN OLD & FULLY DEBUNKED (BY NUMEROUS OTHER PROSECUTORS!) FAIRYTALE, THE FAR & AWAY LEADING REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE & FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WILL BE ARRESTED ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. PROTEST, TAKE OUR NATION BACK!, [sic]” Trump said on Truth Social.
However, recent reports suggest New York City officials want to arraign Trump virtually, so as to avoid a public spectacle.
Republicans have blasted New York City district attorney Alvin Bragg and other leftist officials for weaponizing the justice system against Trump.
“Here we go again — an outrageous abuse of power by a radical DA who lets violent criminals walk as he pursues political vengeance against President Trump,” House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., tweeted.
