(Ezekiel Loseke, Headline USA) Aaron Brooks, a wrestler from Penn State competing at 184lbs, won his third straight national title placing him firmly atop his sport, but after winning the championship he spoke entirely of Jesus Christ.
The Daily Collegian, Penn State’s paper, reported that Brooks dominated the national tournament. Brooks defeated the 1st and 2nd seeded wrestlers, and did not give up a take-down the entire tournament.
Indeed, according to The Collegian, Brooks won “without much of a challenge from the rest of the field.”
Despite his incredible success, Brooks did not want to speak about his accolades. In an interview posted to Twitter, he credits his success to Jesus Christ.
Brooks was asked about his faith by a reporter.
“It’s everything,” he said. “Christ’s resurrection is everything, not just His life, but His death and resurrection.”
“You can only get that through Him, the Holy Spirit only through Him … only through Jesus Christ Himself.”
The interviewer then asks Brooks about his power and finesse, what he called Brooks’ “calling card.”
Brooks, once again, credited his faith.
“The Holy Spirit, Acts Chapter 1 verse 8,” he said.
The interviewer does not ask for clarification, but if he had, he’d realize Brooks knew exactly what he was saying.
That verse describes power being given to those who receive the Holy Spirit.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth,” it reads.
“Power, Holy Spirit power, that’s everything,” he said. “That’s where it’s from.”
The interviewer then asked about the finesse again, and Brooks again credited The Holy Spirit.
“The Holy Spirit as well,” he said. “It’s all God.”
In a rare show of sportsmanship, Brooks also thanked his competitor in the national championship.
“He’s my brother in Christ,” he said. “Iron sharpens iron.”
“Every time I have him, I’ve got to bring it.”
