(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Former President Donald Trump will reportedly consider bringing back public executions if he is re-elected in 2024, Rolling Stone reported.
The music magazine, which has a history of unreliable reporting on serious topics, claimed Trump had been asking some of his closest advisors, “What do you think of firing squads?”
The report also claimed that the former president has mused about “bringing back death by firing squad, by hanging, and, according to two of the sources, possibly even by guillotine.”
An unnamed source who reportedly had direct knowledge of the matter told Rolling Stone that Trump felt public executions, especially if televised, would deter violent criminals.
“The [former] president believes this would help put the fear of God into violent criminals,” this source says. “He wanted to do some of these [things] when he was in office, but for whatever reasons didn’t have the chance.”
A spokesman for Trump denied that Trump had speculated about video advertisements promoting capital punishment, Breitbart reported.
“More ridiculous and fake news from idiots who have no idea what they’re talking about,” he wrote. “Either these people are fabricating lies out of thin air, or Rolling Stone is allowing themselves to be duped by these morons.”
The journalists at the Rolling Stone have ripped on Trump for years for his pro-law policies.
According to a previous report, celebrated President Joe Biden for suspending capital punishment at the federal level, Trump went on a “killing spree” during his final months in office.
The report cited the allegedly murderous former president’s recent campaign announcement, in which he promoted the enforcement of laws as a major part of his platform.
“The former president is running again—and opened his 2024 campaign with a speech that promised more executions if he wins: ‘We’re going to be asking [for] everyone who sells drugs, gets caught selling drugs to receive the death penalty for their heinous acts,'” said the magazine.
Rolling Stone also noted that “Donald Trump’s enthusiasm for the death penalty dates back decades,” making referenc to his having taken out an advertisement on the front page of a 1989 issue of the New York Daily News to condemn the brutal rape of a female jogger in the city.
“Bring back the death penalty. Bring back our police,” the ad said.
