MTG Grouses about Paltry, Six-Figure Congressional Salary

'Becoming a member of Congress has made my life miserable... '

(Mark Pellin, Headline USA) Suspected erstwhile MAGA firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., already under fire for cuddling and colluding with decidedly swamp-friendly Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., received more barbs after recently griping that her nearly $200,000-a-year Congressional salary was too low.

Congress creatures are required to work excessively long hours, campaign constantly and regularly miss family and social time, Greene complained on a recent episode of journalist Glenn Greenwald’s podcast.

MTG expounded on topics that ranged from the war in Ukraine, last month’s House speaker’s tumult and abuses by Big Tech, the FBI and CIA, along with the allegedly slave wages paid to U.S. representatives and senators.

“The nature of this job, it keeps members of Congress and senators in Washington so much of the time—too much of the time, to be honest with you—that we don’t get to go home and spend more time with our families, our friends, all in our district, or maybe just be regular people,” Greene grumbled. “Because this job is so demanding, it’s turned into practically year-round.”

U.S. representative receive an annual salary of $174,000 a year, reported the left-leaning Daily Beast, which noted that “the House was in session for 164 days last year, meaning Rep. Greene was required to work less than half the calendar year.”

The situation was especially arduous for House members, she claimed.

“And for those of us in the House of Representatives, we have to run for Congress every two years. So you’re practically campaigning nearly the entire time that you’re here serving as a representative,” Greene said.

That was a “few examples” that Greene called a “recipe for disaster” for how “people just fall into this social club, I would call it, here in Washington, D.C.” she said of swamp dwellers.

“Becoming a member of Congress has made my life miserable,” Greene chafed. “I made a lot more money before I got here. I’ve lost money since I’ve gotten here.”

Greene said that her government salary represented a giant pay cut from her previous gig from the general-contracting company she bought from her father, the Daily Beast reported.

“It’s not a life that I think is like something that I enjoy because I don’t enjoy it,” Greene complained about her congressional duties. “But I’m committed to this job because I believe in it.”
