(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., announced last week that he was eyeing a possible move to the Senate after losing his spot on the House Intelligence Committee and receiving at least one serious ethics complaint.
Fortunately for Democrats, freshman Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., is looking to fill the void by becoming the party’s top attack-dog in the House.
Like the twice-failed impeachment manager Schiff, Goldman also has something to prove after having served as the lead majority counsel in the first impeachment attempt against then-President Donald Trump.
According to Axios, Goldman is hoping to become a Democrat incendiary to counter GOP Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Lauren Boebert of Colorado.
But he is gunning in particular for a fellow freshman lawmaker from a district just two over from his own: Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y.
Goldman already filed a complaint against Santos after it was discovered that he falsified his resume. He quickly followed that up with legislation that would require congressional candidates to disclose more information.
“Part of the reason that I have been leading the effort to hold George Santos accountable is that he resembles so many of the fraud defendants that I had in my 10 years as a prosecutor,” Goldman told Axios in an interview in his Capitol office.
Goldman also is taking part in the House Oversight and Homeland Security committees—both of which Greene was recently appointed to, with Boebert joining them on the Oversight committee.
The 46-year-old Goldman has made it clear that he will not refrain from criticism of his Republican colleagues should he deem it “appropriate.”
Schiff, who worked closely with Goldman throughout the impeachment process, offered high praise for the up-and-comer.
“There is nobody you want in the trenches with you more than Dan Goldman,” he explained. “With Republicans set to overreach, and overreach in a major way, Dan has all the skills needed to set the record straight and will be a real asset to our caucus.”
