(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) A recent poll conducted by McLaughlin & Associates in the William F. Buckley, Jr. Program at Yale University showed that American university students are becoming radically hostile toward free speech.
The poll showed shocking results. Half of the students thought that people who decided to engage in so-called “hate speech” should face the death penalty, according to Big League Politics.
“The college student disillusionment with free speech is growing at an alarming pace,” Lauren Noble, Buckley Program founder and executive director, told the Washington Examiner.
“More students are intimidated from speaking freely, and more students are willing to intimidate others from speaking freely than at any time in the history of the survey.”
“In many ways, America’s undergraduate student body seems to be abandoning the very ideas that made America the great country it is today,” she added.
This is the eighth time the Buckley Program has conducted the poll in order to measure the support for the Constitution from students. The poll also showed alarming levels of opposition to traditional American freedoms.
The Examiner article listed some of the examples of students’ opinions, like that “67% of professors and companies [should] declare a commitment to ‘diversity,’” socialism is a good thing [33% of students support socialism], colleges can say what people can discuss on campuses [51% of students agree] and that the death penalty is an acceptable punishment for someone who exercises his free speech [48%].
“The results are scary,” pollster Jim McLaughlin said.
“They are more likely to support socialism over capitalism. The ideology that gave us Nazism and fascism and has led to the deaths of over 100 million across the world is the preferred system of America’s college students.”
He also said that American universities are becoming “indoctrination mills” at a fast pace.
“They support free speech until they disagree with it. Talk about a lack of tolerance,” he said.”
“Is it any wonder why the Left wants to continue to support free college when the current higher education system seems to have become nothing more than indoctrination mills for their radical, big government socialist agenda?”
