DHS Wants Maid & Room Service Help for Illegals Crossing Border

'They want people to volunteer to pick up garbage along the border. I don't know how you define that job... '

(Mark Pellin, Headline USA) The mounds of trash and dumps of debris that a steady stream of illegal immigrants crossing the Biden administration’s open southern border has left in its wake prompted the Department of Homeland Security to beg for help in garbage collection and housekeeping duties.

DHS chief Alejandro Mayorkas issued a cry for volunteers from all government agencies to help clean up the mess that he and his boss have created, according to Fox News. Among other tasks, the volunteers are apparently being asked to help sanitize a trail of discarded water bottles, cartons of spoiled food, soiled diapers, discarded clothes, dangerous drug paraphernalia and mounds of trash.

The plea echoes a similar request DHS made earlier this year for volunteers to serve as de facto concierges for immigrants illegally crossing the border.

“As U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) continues to encounter large number of individuals along our Southwest Border, DHS needs your assistance,” read an April memo to all government agencies.

“Specifically, DHS is looking for current full-time federal civilian employees to support CBP by serving on a 60-day reimbursable detail as a member of the DHS Volunteer Force.”

Volunteer, however, is a relatively loose term when the government employees would still be pocketing their salaries, plus “travel, lodging, per diem, and possible overtime pay for deployed volunteers.”

The oxymoronic volunteers would be tasked with “duties such as meal prep, personal property management, supply and medicine runs, control room monitoring, housekeeping, and data entry,” according to the DHS memo. “This activity will help ensure the individuals arriving to our borders receive compassionate and timely care.”

Now, with illegals still streaming across the border, the DHS again needs help cleaning up the mess.

“They want people to volunteer to pick up garbage along the border. I don’t know how you define that job,” Fox News host Bill Hemmer said of Mayorkas’ plea for help.

Former DHS acting secretary Chad Wolf noted that Mayorkas wasn’t asking for additional resources to actually secure the border, but help cleaning up the optics.

“They’re not actually trying to solve the problem. They’re trying to manage the influx of individuals coming across that border,” he said of the garbage patrol plea.

“Where are the measures in place that are actually trying to solve this, so in two, three months, six months from now we’re not in the same place,” he said.

“That’s where this administration in falling asleep.”
