DeSantis Torches Leftist Media for ‘Politicizing’ Deadly Hurricane

'Here’s the media praying for Florida to get destroyed by hurricane, just so they can have something to make DeSantis look bad... '

(Mark Pellin, Headline USA) The inherent political and partisan bias of the leftist media received a well-deserved lashing Tuesday from Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, who dismantled a loaded question tossed at him concerning Hurricane Ian that is currently hurtling toward his home state.

Following a tense morning that dragged into the afternoon without President Joe Biden placing a call to DeSantis to discuss storm preparedness and offer federal help, Biden eventually, albeit belatedly, rang the Republican governor and potential GOP presidential candidate.

Before Biden had placed that call, a reporter tried to ask DeSantis about the ramifications.

“FEMA Administrator [Deanne] Criswell said today that she acknowledged concerns that Florida [inaudible] lacks response to the storm so far and that–” the reporter began, a blatant misrepresentation of what had transpired.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Give me a break,” DeSantis corrected. “That is nonsense. Stop politicizing, okay? Stop it. We declared a state of emergency when this thing wasn’t even formed.”

“We’ve had people in here, you’ve had counties doing, they’ve done a lot of hard work and honestly, you’re trying to attack me, I get it, but like you’re attacking these other people who’ve worked very hard,” DeSantis said, giving credit where credit was due despite a politicized media trying to distort reality.

“And so that’s just totally false. I don’t think we’ve ever, certainly since I’ve been governor, declared a state emergency this early,” DeSantis informed.

“We made sure that we were very inclusive with it,” he said, with a scalpel stab at the leftist agenda. “We said that there was a lot of uncertainty and then we’ve worked to make sure the preparations that have been done and all the stuff, you talk to the people at the counties, when they’ve needed something, stuff gets there very quickly because of what Kevin and his team have done,” DeSantis said of his emergency response team.

None of which seemingly mattered to an activist media that was more concerned with trying to inflict political damage on DeSantis than whatever damage Hurricane Ian could inflict on Florida.

Contrary to Politico’s hit job, DeSantis has, in fact, been hurricane-tested, as noted by Florida’s Voice, which recalled 2020’s Hurricane Sally.

Other leftist attacks were more spiteful, in line with Biden’s directive to use any excuse to demonize Republicans, even the looming destruction of a hurricane. After slamming DeSantis as a gay-hating MAGA governor, leftist podcaster Rachel Vindman showed her empathy with the people of Florida.

“We should use they/them pronouns for hurricane Ian to annoy DeSantis,” Vindman spat.

“If your first thought in the morning when you see a massive hurricane heading toward American shores is to mock the governor maybe consider you’re the bad guy not him,” tweeted American Greatness senior writer Julie Kelly.

In face of all the vitriol and partisan rhetoric, DeSantis stayed classy and thanked Biden for whatever federal assistance could be provided, as the Florida governor went about the business of preparing his state for Ian’s landfall.

Biden, meanwhile, had his own priorities.
