Northern Ariz. Univ. Requiring FOUR ‘Diversity’ Courses to Graduate

'Unless or until the state legislature acts to rein in the universities, they will likely continue requiring students to spend enormous time and money to sit through these courses...'

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) One of the nation’s wokest public colleges—Northern Arizona University—has decided to force all students to take four total courses on diversity and inclusion in order to recieve their bachelor’s degree, the College Fix reported.

John D. Sailor, a research associate at the National Association of Scholars, wrote a report in the Manhattan Institute’s City Journal describing the new curriculum.

The school will demand that students take courses in intersectional movements of race, class, gender and sexuality in order to study “how intersectionality, and the matrix of inequality, have shaped the production of knowledge” and to provide “a critical lens through which intersectional epistemologies can be foregrounded,” Sailor reported.

“These Diversity Perspectives courses must … embrace the philosophical underpinning of identity politics,” he added.

The new graduation requirements will take effect in 2024.

Matt Beienburg, director of education policy at the Goldwater Institute, said that the move is no surprise considering that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs have come to dominate the landscape of public higher education.

“Unfortunately, DEI programming appears to be crowding out more scholarly and civic-minded content throughout higher education around the country, including in Arizona,” Beienburg said.

DEI policies dominate Arizona’s colleges, and have even led to an “Orwellian campus reporting apparatus” at the University of Arizona, which “encourages students to report each other to university authorities for politically incorrect or ‘biased’ speech,” he added.

According to Beienburg, things are not likely to get any better until politicians step in and reassert control over the massive state-university bureaucracies.

“Unless or until the state legislature acts to rein in the universities, they will likely continue requiring students to spend enormous time and money to sit through these courses if they wish to earn a degree,” he concluded.
