NPR Ripped for Dropping July 4 Tradition, Insulting America

'Even with our divisions, we should be able to have one day to remember a historic and bold leap of faith in each other... '

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) A leftist media outlet funded by taxpayers became even more woke than it used to be by stopping the annual reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 4 and instead starting discussions about what equality means.

According to RedState, conservatives never liked the National Public Radio network, also known as NPR, but at least the network used to read the Declaration of Independence every year on the birthday of America, sometimes even tweeting the lines from the document.

It all started to change in 2021 when NPR included a “disclaimer” in their Twitter feed and their reading of the document that explained that the Declaration of Independence is “a document with flaws and deeply ingrained hypocrisies.”

“The document also includes a racist slur against Indigenous Americans,” NPR informed.

This year, the network went even further and decided that reading the Declaration of Independence on-air is not the right thing to do. Instead, they decided to discuss “what equality means.”

Steve Inskeep of NPR repeated the same leftist talking point.

“NPR celebrates the Declaration differently this year – reading key passages aloud, and also reading the words of Americans through 246 years who’ve quoted and called on the national creed.”

Conservatives instantly started to call for defunding the station. People who identify themselves as independents said that even though they liked the program, they missed the reading and wondered why NPR decided to not read the document on air, apparently unaware of the biased political affiliation of the station.

Some people, however, appreciated what NPR did, including one of the “senior investigative reporters” at NBC News.

On the other hand, Jonathan Turley, a law professor from George Washington University, said that NPR should revive the annual tradition to avoid even further division in this country.

“It is another lost opportunity to share a common article of faith of all citizens from 1776 that is renewed annually by every generation,” he said. “Even with our divisions, we should be able to have one day to remember a historic and bold leap of faith in each other.”
