NY Gov. Hochul Red-Flags Gun Owners to Celebrate July Fourth

'This to me is the embodiment of what it means to be an American... '

(Mark Pellin, Headline USA) New York Democrat Mayor Kathy Hochul celebrated Independence Day by rushing state legislators back into session to pass a law requiring gun-permit applicants to provide years of their social media history and produce so-called character references, along with a slew of other tyrannical restrictions on the rights of law-abiding gun owners.

The state’s new edict, set to take effect Sept. 1, was cobbled together in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down New York’s overly-excessive gun regulations.

The court ruled the state’s law requiring people to demonstrate a particular need for carrying a gun in order to get a license to carry one in public violated the 2nd Amendment.

“We know of no other constitutional right that an individual may exercise only after demonstrating to government officers some special need,” Justice Clarence Thomas wrote for the 6-3 majority decision.

Hochul and the state’s gun-grabbing leftist legislators launched into frenzied overdrive in response to concoct a whole new batch of gun restrictions, which the governor signed into law.

The insurrectionist fiat to circumvent the Supreme Court requires applicants for gun permits to provide state agents with at least three years history of their social media accounts, as well as providing at least four so-called character references. The legislation also bans carry-concealed weapons from what state officials deem “sensitive locations” like Times Square, public transit and other public venues like libraries, parks and museums.

NYC Council Minority Leader Joe Borelli, a Republican, blasted the new legislation as an oppressively Orwellian abuse of red flag laws.

Along with having to divulge years worth of private data and personal references swearing to their “good moral character,” the law requires gun-permit applicants to also provide listings of contact information for any domestic partners or adults they live with, and to have at least 16 hours of firearm training.

A new felony crime was also created for anyone who brings a gun into any business or workplace unless the establishment has proactively posted a sign saying guns are welcome.

Under the new law, future ammunition purchases will also now require background checks to include information on the buyer’s “date, name, age, occupation and residence” entered into a state database.

“This to me is the embodiment of what it means to be an American,” Hochul proclaimed at a presser for the state’s renewed assault on liberty.

“In honor of our Fourth of July weekend, I look forward to signing the legislation as soon as it’s finished.”

Hochul’s odd brand of patriotism was roundly mocked as an example of the Left’s lust to control the public and bend citizens to their will and alleged wisdom.

“Democrats love to accuse everyone else of being a ‘fascist,’ but they are the true American fascists,” wrote Paul Schlienz, noting that Hochul proved it with the twisted demand that citizens provide the state massive amounts of personal data to exercise a constitutionally protected right.

Trends Journal publisher Gerald Celente seemed to be paying attention and wondered if a certain first-son would be able to obtain a gun permit under the state’s new social media dictum.
