The bans apply to books and music created by anyone “who held Russian citizenship after the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union,” the Washington Examiner reported.
“I am pleased to welcome the legal ban on Russian content — songs, performances by Russian artists and the distribution of Russian books,” Ukrainian Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko told reporters.
Tkachenko cast the move as part of a larger war against Russian culture in Ukraine.
“Unfortunately, the war proved that it was high time to switch to Ukrainian-language content,” he continued. “We must replace Russian content with Ukrainian at all levels, from music to libraries.”
The bans continue the BLM-style assault on Russian civilization — including tearing down statues and renaming streets — that has been underwritten by billions of dollars from the United States.
On June 15, President Joe Biden reaffirmed his commitment to Ukrainian “democracy” after a call with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in which he informed the Ukrainian president that the military-industrial complex was shipping more pallets of cash — $1 billion — to Ukraine in order to extend the war.
“The United States will stand by Ukraine as it defends its democracy and support[s] its sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of unprovoked Russian aggression,” Biden said.
News of the Ukrainian book bans comes as U.S. officials have admitted that they are willing to tank the United States’ economy in order to prevent Russian victory.
“Officials have described the stakes of ensuring Russia cannot swallow up Ukraine — an outcome officials believe could embolden Putin to invade other neighbors or even strike out at NATO members — as so high that the administration is willing to countenance even a global recession and mounting hunger,” the Washington Post reported.
