(Headline USA) After the partisan Jan. 6 congressional committee announced this week its intention to subpoena Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Justice Sonia Sotomayor came out in defense of her colleague.
“Justice Thomas is the one justice in the building that literally knows every employee’s name, every one of them,” she said on Thursday at the American Constitution Society’s 2022 national convention.
“And not only does he know their names, he remembers their families’ names and histories,” Sotomayor continued. “That’s why I can be friends with him and still continue our daily battle over our differences of opinions in cases.”
The Thomases have come under attack from leftists after it was revealed that Ginni defended former President Donald Trump’s claims of election fraud around the time of the Jan. 6 Capitol uprising.
She was reportedly in communication with attorney John Eastman—who encouraged Trump to try to overturn the results of the 2020 election—and former chief of staff Mark Meadows.
Ginni Thomas has made it clear, however, that she and her husband do not share the ins-and-outs of their work with each other.
The J6 Committee alledged that in one email from Eastman he encouraged Ginni Thomas to try and pressure her husband to take up Trump’s election fraud case—something the Supreme Court refused to do, with no justices objecting.
“So the odds are not based on the legal merits but an assessment of the justices’ spines, and I understand that there is a heated fight underway,” Eastman reportedly wrote in one email. “For those willing to do their duty, we should help them by giving them a Wisconsin cert petition to add into the mix.”
The Jan. 6 congressional committee’s chairman, Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said she’d be invited to speak before the committee “soon.”
“We think it’s time that we, at some point, invite her to come talk to the committee,” he said this week.
