(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) The primetime political event of the year, the Jan. 6 Committee hearings, have recieved terrible ratings, the Daily Caller reported.
Despite House Democrats having hiring a dedicated producer to make the partisan hearings more audience-friendly and having recruited celebrities like Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander to beg people to watch, early ratings returns showed that many of those who tuned in on the leading broadcast networks quickly changed the channel.
The numbers on Thursday ranged between 2 million and 4 million total viewers per major station between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., per the report.
The first of the inquisition’s first public hearings was aired simultaneously on ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC and NBC News. In total, the event drew an estimated 20 million viewers.
For the three broadcast networks—ABC, CBS and NBC—that amounted to a smaller-than usual audience share, reported the Media Research Center.
By comparison President Joe Biden‘s State of the Union Address earlier this year drew 38 million viewers.
Meanwhile, the National Basketball Association’s playoff series drew more than 11 million viewers at the same time, and Fox News’s Tucker Carlson drew 5 million.
After the event, former President Donald Trump responded to the news by mocking the committee’s bumbling on his new social media platform, Truth Social.
“The T.V. Ratings for the January 6th Unselect Committee were absolutely awful,” Trump wrote .
He then suggested that the ratings struggled because it is simply a continuation of the ever-enduring Russia-collussion hoax that was deployed to cripple him during his one term.
He also suggested that Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., a member of the J6 Committee and leader of the first impeachment against Trump, was the cause for the tanked ratings.
“Perhaps the reason is that it is being ‘sponsored’ by Adam ‘Shifty’ Schitt and the same people that brought you the Russia, Russia, Russia HOAX, and that the Unselects are not interested in hearing from anyone saying the Election was Rigged and Stolen, despite the EVIDENCE being irrefutable!” Trump wrote.
Trump, a master of entertainment, concluded by mocking the committee once again for their hiring of a former ABC News producer James Goldston in order to make their political theater more entertaining.
“So the Unselect Committee of political HACKS refuses to play any of the many positive witnesses and statements, refuses to talk of the Election Fraud and Irregularities that took place on a massive scale, and decided to use a documentary maker from Fake News ABC to spin only negative footage,” Trump posted.
