Pro-Choice Activists Vow to be ‘Ungovernable’ if Roe is Repealed

'We will be ungovernable until this government starts working for us...'

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) In response to the leaked Supreme Court draft which signaled Roe v Wade may be overturned, pro-choice activists flooded Washington D.C. to protest.

According to Fox News, the “Bans Off Our Bodies” protest was organized by several groups, including Planned Parenthood and the Women’s March.

In the opening remarks, Women’s March executive director Rachel Carmona warned of a “summer of rage.”

“We will be ungovernable until this government starts working for us, ungovernable,” Carmona said, leading those in attendance into an “ungovernable” chant. “That’s why we are taking to the streets today in cities all across the country. It’s why today isn’t just one day of action. It is simply day one of an invigorated movement aligned behind one simple demand, and you all heard it, keep your bans off our bodies!”

“Today is day one of an uprising to protect abortion rights,” Carmona said. “It is day one of our feminist future and it is day one of a summer of rage where we will be ungovernable, ungovernable. And we will not stop until the politicians on our side start acting like they’re on our side.”

Carmona continued, saying activists would continue to fight “until justice protects us from attacks on our bodies” and until everyone who would like to get an abortion is able to do so.

A few political figures were present, such as Janeese Lewis George, member of the Council of the District of Columbia, and Rep. Barbara Lee, D-CA.

“If they coming for us today, they coming for you tomorrow,” Lee said. “So don’t think these bans aren’t an attempt to further erode our personal liberties and our democracy.”

The protest also featured speakers from several alleged faith organizations, such as Catholics for Choice and the National Council of Jewish Women.
