Michigan’s Radical, Lesbian AG Vows Refusal to Enforce Pro-Life Law

'I hate to even put it that way, but is that enough of a chance of dying that that person would qualify under Michigan’s ban for a lifesaving abortion? ... '

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has proclaimed that she will not be enforcing a Michigan anti-abortion law that would come into effect if Roe v. Wade was overturned.

Nessel, referring to a 1931 Michigan law, said she refuses “to enforce this draconian law that will endanger their lives and put to jeopardy the health, safety and welfare of the lives of each and every woman in the state of Michigan,” according to Red Voice Media.

The law criminalizes abortions, with the exception of those that are “necessary to presere the life of such woman.”

Michigan Penal Code 750.14 reads, “Any person who shall willfully administer to any pregnant woman any medicine, drug, substance or thing whatever, or shall employ any instrument or other means whatever, with intent thereby to procure the miscarriage of any such woman, unless the same shall have been necessary to preserve the life of such woman, shall be guilty of a felony, and in case the death of such pregnant woman be thereby produced, the offense shall be deemed manslaughter.”

Democrats are confused by the plain language of the law, insisting that they do not know what constitutes a woman’s “health” or “safety.”

University of Michigan professor and OB-GYN Dr. Lisa Harris is one such Democrat.

One example she offered was an instance where a pregnant woman suffers from heart disease, in which case the woman has a 20-30% chance of dying while pregnant.

“Is that enough of a chance?” Harris asked.

“I hate to even put it that way, but is that enough of a chance of dying that that person would qualify under Michigan’s ban for a lifesaving abortion? Or would their risk of dying need to be 50% or 100%?” she said.

Nessel has gone on the record saying abortion should not be restricted by any legislation.

“Politicians do not belong in our doctor’s offices, they don’t belong in our bedrooms and should not be making these kinds of decisions on behalf of the American public and behalf of women across America,” she said.

Nessel is hoping that the Michigan Supreme Court will determine that abortion is a fundamental right under the state constitution, whether or not Roe is overturned.
