(Tony Sifert, Headline USA) In a case of throwing good money after bad, DC Comics has doubled down on its portrayal of a homosexual Superman, according to a celebratory post at the entertainment news site Screen Rant.

In a forthcoming issue of the comic — part of a “DC Pride anthology” — Superman will don a new cape adorned with the pride flag in celebration of his bisexuality, in what Screen Rant is calling the “perfect modern upgrade.”
This isn’t your father’s Superman.
In the DC “universe,” Clark Kent has been replaced as Superman by his son, Jon Kent, who in October 2021 “came out” as bisexual and began dating a certain Jay Nakamura.
“His relationship with Jay Nakamura has brought a much-needed male, bisexual perspective to one of DC’s most recognizable faces, as his romance seems built to last,” Screen Rant wrote.
In the new issue, Kent receives a package from his Nakamura, a reporter, and discovers within a rainbow cape.
LGBT site Pink News celebrated the historic event, and helpfully informed readers of the nuances of Superman’s new cape.
“Kent . . . pulls out a new Superman cape with the colours of various Pride flags – including the pansexual, bisexual, trans, ace and non-binary flags – stitched on the inside,” Pink News reported.
Supergirl actress and transgender activist Nicole Maines wrote the introduction to the DC Pride anthology, according to CBR.
“Representation is something that so many take for granted,” Maines wrote. “But as queer people, we have always understood not only its necessity, but its power.
“Seeing yourself in comic books . . . in your favorite superheroes, is especially powerful,” she continued.
“It tells us that not only are there other people like us out there . . . but that they stand alongside the very best of us.”
