Two Women Pregnant after Trans Inmates Moved to Female NJ Prison

'The Department always reserves all options to ensure the health and safety of the individuals in its custody...'

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) After the American Civil Liberties Union won a court settlement to send self-identified transgender inmates to a women’s penitentiary in New Jersey, two females have become pregnant, the Daily Mail reported.

Jeanne LoCicero, the ACLU’s legal director, defended the policy, despite the news. She said the far-left organization still supported the rights of transgenders to pick their prisons.

The policy is “in line with New Jersey’s strong anti-discrimination laws that prevent discrimination and harassment on the basis of gender identity,” LoCicero claimed.

It was not immediately clear who the fathers were. The Edna Mahan Correctional Facility, in Clinton, houses 27 transgenders among 800 women.

Many of the transgenders housed in the prison have not yet undergone what doctors call “gender reassignment surgery.”

The Department of Corrections’s external affairs director, Dan Sperrazza, emphasized that the sex was consensual, and was therefore permissible.

“While DOC cannot comment on any specific disciplinary or housing decisions that may be considered in light of these events, the Department always reserves all options to ensure the health and safety of the individuals in its custody,” Sperrazza said.

Despite the support from prison executives and the ACLU, not all are happy with the new arrangement.

The correctional officers’ union issued a statement opposing the housing of transgenders at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility, citing concerns of sexual assault and impregnation.

“We opposed this policy change believing it would be detrimental to the general population of female inmates being housed at Edna Mahan and also bring added stress to our correctional police officers assigned to this institution,” they wrote.

The Edna Mahan prison has endured much turmoil in recent years.

Currently, 10 former prison guards face criminal charges alleging that they assaulted a transgender person in 2020.

As a result, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has decided to shut down the prison in the coming years.
