(Joshua Paladino, Headline USA) Conservative groups are pressuring centrist Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, to vote against Ketanji Brown Jackson‘s nomination to the Supreme Court, though even complete Republican opposition will likely not affect the outcome.
“We believe that if you review her record, you will come to the same conclusion as us: Judge Jackson should not be on the Supreme Court,” the groups wrote in a letter dated March 24.
The groups highlighted the same two issues about which Republican Senators have raised concerns during the Judiciary Committee’s confirmation hearing: Jackson’s lax child pornography sentences, her desire to eliminate mandatory minimums for child pornography convictions, and her defense of prisoners held in Guantanamo Bay, according to Just the News.
Jackson reportedly “flirted with unsubstantiated left-wing theories” in her defense of Guantanamo Bay prisoners.
She has taken the Democrat and Republican Party’s push for criminal justice reform to extremes.
“Going back to law school, Judge Jackson questioned making convicts register as sex offenders, claiming it could lead for sex offenders to be stigmatized and ostracized,” the conservatives wrote in the letter.
In one case that Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., noted, Jackson reduced a sex offender’s sentence from 10 years under federal sentencing guidelines to three months.
Collins said she wants Jackson to receive a fair trial, but the groups reminded her about Justice Brett Kavanaugh‘s treatment during his confirmation hearings.
“Sen. Durbin is currently blocking the release of key records which would reveal more information about Judge Jackson,” the groups wrote.
“This comes after Senate Democrats, including Sen. Durbin, demanded the release of millions of documents unrelated to Justice Kavanaugh’s time as a judge.”
Democrats likely have 50 votes to confirm Jackson’s nomination because Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., have not indicated a willingness to vote against her. Manchin has confirmed his support for Jackson.

“We urge you to reject her nomination, as her views on crime and terrorism are deeply disturbing, and outside of the mainstream of judicial philosophy and legal guidelines,” they wrote.
