(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) Georgia gubernatorial candidate and worse loser ever Stacey Abrams made an appearance on the “Star Trek” reboot, appearing as the president of United Earth, Yahoo News reported.
A scene at the end of season four introduces Abrams’s character, and gives her several lines, such as “United Earth is ready right now to rejoin the Federation, and nothing could make me happier than to say those words.”
Abrams is a long time “Star Trek” fan, discussing it constantly and even mentioning it in her book.
“I love ‘Voyager’ and I love ‘Discovery’ and of course I respect the original,” she said in an interview with the New York Times, “but I revere ‘The Next Generation.’”
Sonequa Martin-Green, who plays the main character in ‘Star Trek: Discovery,’ said she is “still floored” that Abrams, a “civil hero” graced “us with her presence.”
“It was an honor for me as a black woman to stand with her in the story,” she explained.
Executive producer Michelle Paradise also expressed excitement at working with the attempted politician.
“We knew that she was a fan of the show and of ‘Trek’ in general, and for us, there was no one better to be that president,” she said. “It was a privilege for all of us to get to work with her, and we’re so grateful she joined us for that.”
Twitter users—and original Trek fans—had a very different reaction:
Seems about right. Both the show and her thinking that she actually won the gubernatorial election in Georgia are both fiction.

Yeah, and how many let out a big groan when they saw this?

She is not universally beloved and she is currently campaigning. That makes this casting choice completely inappropriate to Roddenberry’s original vision.
