Attached to the tweet is an infographic titled “What You Need to Know About the Omicron-Based COVID-19 Vaccine Study.”
The objective of this study is “to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of an Omicron-based COVID-19 vaccine candidate.” There were a reported 1,420 participants, all adults ages 18 to 55 years old, separated into three groups.
The participants were separated by number of vaccinations: group one had received two doses, group two had received three doses and group three had not been vaccinated.
The unvaccinated test group will be receiving three doses of the Omicron-based vaccine in a six-month window.
These Omicron-based vaccinations—which are currently in testing—are separate from the shots meant to treat the original strain.
Despite being the most contagious, the Omicron strain has been widely found to be extremely mild. The virus manifests mainly as a cold, resulting in headaches, sniffles and coughing.
Pfizer’s announcement has been met with skepticism, even by those who have previously been vaccinated.
