SCHWEIZER: Manchin Steadfastly Resisted Democrat Attempts to Buy His Vote

'This is just how Washington works, right? ... '

Peter Schweizer, president of the Government Accountability Institute, praised Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., for his refusal to go along with a scheme that would have rewarded Manchin’s wife with a $163,000 job that controlled $300 million in federal funding if Manchin had helped pass the Biden Build Back Better program, reported Breitbart.

In March of 2021 Gayle Manchin was nominated by Biden as the federal co-chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission, according to CNN.

“The commission is an economic development partnership agency of the federal government and 13 state governments working toward strengthening economic growth in Appalachia,” said CNN.

ARC, according to Schweizer, was richly funded in Biden’s Build Back Better legislation that Manchin said he would not support.

“In subsequent iterations of this [Build Back Better] legislation, that Appalachian regional commissioner — the ARC — would have received upwards of $300 million dollars, right?” said Schweizer.

Schweizer made his comments while guest co-hosting the Sean Hannity radio show on Monday.

“So some people have pointed this out that, ‘Hey, Joe Biden appoints Joe Manchin’s wife, everybody knows Joe Manchin is going to be a key vote on this, appoints his wife to this commission and is poised to receive a big time payout from this bill.’ This is just how Washington works, right?” said Schweizer.

Liberals on Twitter are demanding that Biden summarily fire Gayle Manchin from the position at ARC.

As of 2018, Manchin had a net worth of nearly $8 million dollars, according to the site opensecrets.com, a fortune that has likely grown substantially in the intervening three years.

In April, Gayle Manchin was “unanimously confirmed by the Senate as co-chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission” said Forbes.

“Her husband, Joe Manchin, is a moderate Democrat whose support is critical to the White House in a Senate that is split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans,” noted CNN, hinting at the corruption at the time. “If Manchin or other Democratic senators break with the White House on certain initiatives, it could limit the scope of Biden’s agenda.”
