C’Ville Activists Want to Melt Down Lee Statue, Repurpose It as Woke Public Art

'Melting down the Lee statue is a way of preventing further amplification of an image that has become a rallying cry for white supremacists and Neo-Nazis...'

Woke leftist radicals in Virginia have abandoned earlier vows to contextualize the state’s controversial history in favor of recasting it in their own image—after obliterating all that they find disagreeable.

According to the Daily Progress, the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center has submitted a proposal to Charlottesville‘s city council to melt down the iconic statue of Robert E. Lee that used to be on display in Market Street Park.

Instead, they would “use the bronze to create a new work of public art through a community engagement process” that would then be “gifted to the city for installation on public land.”

The statue was on display in the public park until July 10 of this year, when it was removed in accordance with the anti-historical iconoclastic rage following the New York Times‘ publication of the “1619 Project” in 2019 and the death of George Floyd in May of 2020. It is currently stored on city property.

Even before then, however the Confederate relic had been under attack in the uber-leftist college town.

Earlier threats to remove it inspired the 2017 “Unite the Right” rally that led to riots and clashes between pro-monument demostrators and far-left Antifa-linked groups. One left-wing activist died in the melee after being run down by a 20-year-old Ohio resident who panicked when his car was surrounded.

The Jefferson School casts its proposal as an example of turning “swords into plowshares,” but there is little question that the project aims generally at the woke conquest and appropriation of public spaces throughout the United States.

According to the Daily Progress, the museum’s executive director, Andrea Douglas, desired “to create a methodology for the local area to think about its public spaces” and also “at the national level, to create a roadmap for other communities that are interested in thinking about the same things.”

Calling the old monument “moral trash,” Douglas argued that “melting down the Lee statue is a way of preventing further amplification of an image that has become a rallying cry for white supremacists and Neo-Nazis.”

The report itself calls the statue of the Confederate general “an international lightning rod of white supremacy.”

“The people who are funding us,” claims Douglas, “are funding us because they believe that we are engaged in something that has national repercussions.”

Among those funders: George Soros’s Open Society Foundations.
