Secretary of State Antony Blinken used much of his testimony Monday before the House Foreign Affairs Committee to deflect responsibility for the Biden administration’s failures during the recent Afghanistan withdrawal.
And so, Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., instead took the opportunity to ask him about the Justice Department’s supposed investigations into the Biden family’s corrupt business dealings.
“Little off-topic here, but I think it’s interesting,” began Perry, according to the New York Post. “How long was your recent interview with the FBI, and was it a deposition?”
Blinken responded by playing coy: “I’m sorry, I don’t know to what you’re referring.”
“Are you saying that you have not had a recent interview with the FBI since becoming secretary of state?” asked Perry.
“I-I-I-I-I’m not sure what you’re referring to, and I’m happy to take that up with you offline,” stammered Blinken.
The two continued to spar until committee chairman Gregory Meeks, D-NY, intervened to remind Perry that the topic was Afghanistan.
“I appreciate it, Mr. Chairman, but the secretary generally refuses to answer questions about Afghanistan,” Perry sniped. “So I just figured we’d talk about something he should be intimately familiar with.”
He then asked Blinken if he had altered his prior testimony last year before the GOP-led Senate concerning the Bidens’ business deals.
Both the DOJ and Hunter Biden confirmed after the 2020 election that there was an ongoing investigation that touched on tax-fraud and money laundering over Hunter’s financial entanglements with the Chinese Communist Party and other foreign government entities.
A parallel investigation, confirmed by Politico in June, centers on Blue Star Strategies, the lobbying firm that pressed State Department officials to intervene in a Ukrainian corruption investigation surrounding the country’s leading energy company, Burisma.
Records revealed that Blinken, who was deputy secretary of State at the time, corresponded and may have taken a meeting with Hunter, who was drawing a $1-million-a-year salary for a “consulting” position on the Burisma board.
The Senate and DOJ investigations would seem to validate then-President Donald Trump’s July 2019 request that Ukraine reopen its own corruption investigation, which became the subject of Democrats’ first impeachment attempt against Trump.
The full extent of Hunter Biden’s conflicts of interest was first outlined by the bombshell release of files from his abandoned laptop last fall, although many left-wing media and social-media falsely claimed the material was Russian disinformation in order to justify suppressing the story.
President Joe Biden has continued to gaslight the public about his and his son’s activities during the waning years of the Obama administration, when he served as vice president and could not legally seek personal gain from foreign governments due to the US Constitution’s emoluments clause.
Nonetheless, emails revealed that Hunter had negotiated a 10% cut of the profits in at least one major deal to be held in escrow for “the big guy,” who was confirmed by other business associates to be Joe Biden.
Blinken, meanwhile, took a position as director of the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Biden Center, which was funded in large part by anonymous Chinese donors.
