‘Squad’ Members Slam Biden on Reopening of Migrant Detention Facilities for Kids

'This is not okay, never has been okay, never will be okay...'

Members of the far-left “Squad” on Tuesday blasted President Joe Biden’s reopening of immigrant detention facilities that the Obama and Trump administrations had previously used to house unaccompanied minors.

A report this week in the Washington Post revealed that the Biden administration was opening at least one facility in Carrizo Springs, Texas, drawing prompt backlash from both sides of the aisle.

Former president Donald Trump’s policies were heavily criticized by Democrats and the liberal media, prompting accusations of hypocrisy.

The barracks—which appeared to be made up of repurposed storage crates—will be used to hold children ages 13 to 17.

When asked how this facility is any different from the Trump administration’s facilities, White House press secretary Jen Psaki tried to claim Biden’s facility was nothing like his predecessor’s.

“This is not kids being kept in cages,” she insisted. “This is a facility being opened that is going to follow the standards of other HHS facilities.”

Leftists, however, argued otherwise.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio–Cortez, D-N.Y., who famously posed for a photoshoot outside a migrant facility during the Trump administration, slammed Biden over the “unjust” policy while calling for even more radical open-border measures.

“It’s only 2 months into this administration and our fraught, unjust immigration system will not transform in that time,” she said. “DHS shouldn’t exist, agencies should be reorganized, ICE gotta go, ban for-profit detention, create climate refugee status and more.”

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., also criticized Biden for making the same “callous” decision as previous administrations.
