Establishment politicians in both political parties, the corporate media, and Big Tech platforms blamed Parler and Gab for the Capitol Hill riot, but government documents show that rioters used Facebook to communicate and organize far more, Reclaim the Net reported.
George Washington University’s Program on Extremism published a paper that analyzed 223 government documents which considered pressing charges on rioters who entered the Capitol.
Of 223 official documents, 73 mentioned Facebook as the place where people planned to cause chaos.
The documents referenced Parler only eight times.
Reclaim the Net reported that the government documents mentioned Facebook-owned Instagram and Google-owned YouTube more than eight times each, but the exact number of references was not immediately available.
The George Washington University study confirms what conservatives have suspected: The ruling class sensationalized the Capitol Hill uprising—absurdly characterizing it as an insurrection—and linked it to alternative free-speech platforms for conservatives.
At the same time, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter—which also abound with illegal activity and so-called hate-speech—pushed conservatives off their platforms.
Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-NY, chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, then called on the FBI to investigate alternative social media platforms.
These tactics worked to push conservatives off traditional platforms, to de-legitimize alternative platforms, and to label anyone who uses them as domestic terrorists and white supremacists.
In response to the study, Facebook said it is committed to “ongoing and proactive outreach to law enforcement.”
The platform also said it will continue to ban groups “for discussions of committing violent acts in response to the election results.”
Yet, Facebook will not be deplatformed.
