Americans got a sneak preview of what the duration of President Joe Biden‘s time as president (however long that may be) will look like, as his long history of befuddled blunders reared its head yet again on Inauguration Day.
Despite having been a civil servant for roughly five decades, Biden, 78, needed to be reminded to salute the Marines as he walked into the US Capitol.
But reflexively, rather than follow the instructions, he repeated them, offering Americans and others watching a glimpse behind the curtain into the inner workings of his administration.
While walking into the doorway, he can be heard clearly saying, “Salute the Marines.”
Biden’s scattered thoughts have long been an issue, resulting in frequent flare-ups of foot-in-mouth disease.
President Donald Trump and others sought to raise them on the campaign trail, suggesting that Biden might, in fact, be suffering from the early—or even advanced—stages of dementia.
His own campaign reluctantly appeared to acknowledge that letting the candidate go off-script was a liability, preferring to have him make scripted appearances from his basement or answer pre-vetted questions for much of the race.
Biden’s earpiece even became an issue after wires appeared to protrude from his blazer during one of the two presidential debates. Many of his responses also appeared to have been pre-written on his lectern notes.
Although few in the mainstream media have raised the concerns over Biden’s mental acuity since declaring him victor in the 2020 election, Fox News host Tucker Carlson reminded his viewers that Biden’s health concerns haven’t simply vanished.
“The funny thing is, every person with a microphone in every TV studio in America knew the fuller truth,” Carlson said in his opening monologue Thursday.
“They knew, for example, that Joe Biden isn’t well. Everyone in Washington knows that, but no one said it out loud,” he continued. “They withheld that news from you, as they have for months. So much for speaking truth to power.”
