Schumer Blames Democratic Senate Losses on Cal Cunningham

NC Democrat challenger 'couldn’t keep his zipper up...'

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., admitted this week that Democrats lost the Senate and blamed their losses on failed Democratic candidate Cal Cunningham, who “couldn’t keep his zipper up.”

Schumer has blamed Cunningham in several meetings with top Democratic donors, according to Axios, even though he is the one who recruited the North Carolina Democrat.

Cunningham, a married father of two, was caught having multiple affairs. Prior to the scandal, Cunningham was leading in the polls and was expected to win.

Schumer also speculated that the passing of the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg helped Republicans more than it helped Democrats.

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, for example, was able to keep her seat by appealing to Democratic voters and opposing Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination. Other Republican candidates, however, succeeded by supporting Barrett.

Democrats are still holding out for Georgia’s two Senate run-off elections, which will determine who controls the chamber. But one of Schumer’s candidates in Georgia, Raphael Warnock, could be just as problematic as Cunningham.

Warnock has made several disparaging comments about Republican voters, including in 2016 when he said President Donald Trump’s supporters should “apologize” for their “whiteness.” He also said in a sermon that Americans “cannot serve God and the military.”

It seems Schumer understands how crippling Warnock’s comments could be, because he also told voters that he regrets not recruiting failed gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams to run for Senate in Georgia. Abrams, however, insisted to Schumer that Warnock was the right choice, according to Axios.

Republicans said they are confident they will keep control of the Senate. Trump has plans to travel to the state later this month to campaign on behalf of both candidates.
