Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, dismissed election fraud allegations and accused President Donald Trump‘s supporters of threatening he and his family.
“People made wild accusations about the voting systems that we have in Georgia… I’m not supposed to put my thumb on the Republican side,” he said, MSN reported.
By dismissing credible allegations as “wild,” Raffensperger decided to put his thumb on the Democratic side.
The state’s recount did not include basic democratic protections, such as a signature verification process for mail-in ballots or proper access for poll observers.
Raffensperger has not sought an investigation into election fraud, either, despite credible evidence that Dominion Voting Systems flipped votes from President Donald Trump to Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.
Attorney Sidney Powell has accused Raffensperger and Gov. Brian Kemp of abetting election fraud by hastily introducing Dominion Voting Systems into Georgia.
Raffensperger said Trump should quit demanding accountability.
“My job as secretary of state is to make sure we have fair and honest elections, follow the law, follow the process. When you lose an election, you should leave quietly,” he said, Business Insider reported.
He called Georgia’s election results an expression of the “will of the people,” even though he wished the election would have “been a resounding trumping of the left.”
Raffensperger said he has been threatened since the election, prompting he and his wife, Tricia, to get a private security team.
He said Republicans must stop questioning the voting machines used in the election, saying that they need to “get a grip on reality.”
“If Republicans don’t start condemning this stuff, then I think they’re really complicit in it,” he said. “It’s time to stand up and be counted. Are you going to stand for righteousness? Are you going to stand for integrity? Or are you going to stand for the wild mob? You wanted to condemn the wild mob when it’s on the left side. What are you going to do when it’s on our side?”
