Ala. Sen. Doug Jones, Alleged ‘Moderate,’ Closer in Ideology to Schumer than Joe Manchin

'Jones opposed Justice Amy Coney Barrett's nomination to the Supreme Court...'

With the help of the corporate media, Alabama Sen. Doug Jones has disguised himself as a moderate Democrat, but his voting record shows that his positions align with the far left, Yellow Hammer News reported.

Jones, who represents a pro-Trump state, has a voting record similar to Senators who represent anti-Trump states like New York, Hawaii, Illinois, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, according to data from FiveThirtyEight.

He has a Trump score of 34.8, meaning that he votes the way that Trump wishes slightly more than one-third of the time.

He does not come close to the moderate—though by no means conservative—voting records of Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin, Wv., or Kyrsten Sinema, Az., who side with President Donald Trump on 51.6 and 51.5 percent of votes, respectively.

Jones has a more progressive voting record than Senators in Democratic-leaning states, such as Mark Werner, D-Va., and Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., who both vote with Trump about 35 percent of the time.

In fact, he is most likely to vote alongside Sens. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., Mazie Hirono, D-Hi., and Kamala Harris, D-Calif.

His views do not match his state.

Jones opposed Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

He does not support restrictions on abortion, such as the heartbeat abortion ban, which Alabama passed, but he supports gun control measures, including raising the age to purchase a firearm from 18 to 21.

There is no greater disparity in the nation among a state’s support for Trump and a Senator’s opposition to him, except in Montana, where left-wing Sen. Jon Tester represents a moderate pro-Trump state.

According to Alabama’s support for Trump in 2016, the state’s Senator should support the president more than 85.5 percent of the time.

Republican Senate nominee Tommy Tuberville is likely to unseat Jones on Nov. 3.
