Rep. Ilhan Omar is no sure thing.
The Minnesota Democrat has engaged in anti-Semitism and rabid anti-Americanism since her election to Congress in 2018.
She’s also accused of marrying her brother as part of an immigration fraud scheme, and Omar recently married a political consultant whose company has received nearly $900,000 from her campaign.
Apparently, that’s not very popular.
As a result, Omar’s top Democratic challenger has been raking in outsize donations to topple the Somali-born congresswoman.
Political newcomer Antone Melton-Meaux raised $3.2 million between April and the end of June and has $2 million cash-on-hand ahead of the Aug. 11 primary, according to the Associated Press.
In contrast, Omar received $471,624 during the same period and has $1 million in cash.
Omar represents Minnesota’s 5th congressional district, which encompasses Minneapolis.
Despite her recent Black Lives Matter calls to “dismantle” America, the police-involved death of George Floyd and the ensuing looting, arson and riots literally occurred in the area she represents.
Minnesota’s 5th district is also the most Democratic district in Minnesota and the Upper Midwest. The seat was last held by a Republican in 1963.
But Melton-Meaux said he’s receiving support from “across the economic spectrum.”
Not only are left-wing Democrats sending donations, but conservative donors and pro-Israel groups are flooding his campaign coffers in an attempt to oust the anti-police, anti-immigration enforcement incumbent.
Omar, a member of the Democrat socialist “Squad,” responded by tweeting that candidates and members of Congress are paid to support Israel, implying a Jewish conspiracy. She later apologized.
Omar then issued a statement saying that her campaign donations are the results of grassroots organizing, not special interest groups.
Melton-Meaux is taking Omar’s extremism in stride.
“We started at a time when people really believed we had no shot at this,” he said.
