Va. School Board Considers Restoring Names of Confederate Generals

'That name belongs to Shenandoah County... '

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) In a move to reclaim a piece of its heritage and history, a Virginia School Board has decided to consider the restoration of their traditional Confederate general names to its schools.

A Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, board may undo their 2020 attempt to erase American history by restoring the traditional school names, the National File reported.

Stonewall Jackson High School was changed to Mountain View, and Turner-Ashby Elementary School–named in honor of General Robert E. Lee and cavalry commander Turner Ashby–was renamed Honey Run.

At the time they had caved to leftist rioters who demanded the changes. But now they may fight back. A petition to return to the old names has circulated, gathering more than 4,000 signatures calling on the School Board to take up the matter.

At a recent board meeting, Shenandoah County citizens packed into the room to call for the restoration of the old names.

Many spoke at the meeting, including some who attempted to remind people of the heroic actions undertaken in the Shenandoah Valley during the Civil War, especially in respect to the famous General Stonewall Jackson.

“The guys that stood on that hill with Stonewall Jackson that day, at the top of the Henry House hill, were the boys from Shenandoah County,” one speaker said. He cited that 52 men from their county “gave the full measure of devotion that day, on that hill.”

“That name belongs to Shenandoah County,” he said, referring to Stonewall Jackson.

The parents and citizens partaking in the movement are not doing so without serious risks.

President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice Director Merrick Garland has explicitly used his department to target parents who wish to have a say in the children’s education.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the Biden administration had considered using troops to put down concerned parents attending school board meetings.
