KJP Floundering as White House Mouthpiece

'Reporters were confused by her refusal to answer questions at a recent briefing... '

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USAKarine Jean-Pierre, the first lesbian black woman to become a White House press secretary, has floundered when it comes to her new job, causing some in the White House to wince each time she tries to answer a question.

In an assessment of Jean-Pierre’s performance, Politico reporters called Jean-Pierre’s performance so far a “tough debut” and a “rocky first month.”

The report claimed her answers to questions have “baffled reporters” and “even made some of her White House colleagues wince.”

In her time as former press secretary Jen Psaki’s replacement, Jean-Pierre has refused to answer basic questions about the president’s health that have become standard protocol over the past years, Fox News reported.

“Reporters were confused by her refusal to answer questions at a recent briefing about the last time the president had been tested for Covid-19, something her predecessor regularly disclosed,” Politico‘s Playbook wrote.

Furthermore, Jean-Pierre has failed to provide answers to a number of reasonable questions, citing a lack of information on basic subjects.
“Press secretaries can’t possibly keep tabs on every story line, so it’s not unusual for them to acknowledge when they don’t know the answer and pledge to find more information after the briefing. But that has been a more common response for Jean-Pierre in her first weeks than her predecessor,” they continued.
Psaki, whatever complaints one might have, at least tried to answer questions.

National Review‘s Jim Geraghty tried to at least give the embattled press secretary some cover.
“It’s not that she doesn’t have good answers to reporters’ questions; it is that the entire Biden administration doesn’t have good answers to the country’s problems,” Geraghty quipped.
Politico also found “in her first 10 briefings as press secretary, Jean-Pierre said she didn’t have the information being sought 20-plus times more than predecessor Jen Psaki in her first 10 briefings,” according to transcripts.
But even when Jean-Pierre does answer questions, reporters are often left dissatisfied and grumbling.
“And while White House reporters love to complain about non-answers from communications officials, many have privately grumbled that when Jean-Pierre does have answers, they are often vague and rarely stray from the pre-written talking points prepared in the binder at the podium,” Playbook wrote.
