FBI Targets More Pa. Republicans Who Questioned Stolen Election

(Tony Sifert, Headline USA) Following a pattern that has become all-too-familiar, the FBI has delivered subpoenas to several Republican Pennsylvania state legislators in the aftermath of its seizure of the phone of U.S. Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., as part of the DOJ‘s apparent investigation into the formation of an alternate slate of 2020 electors in the state, according to PennLive.

PennLive’s report, which was based on “multiple” anonymous sources who had been “briefed” on the subpoenas, was left unconfirmed by spokesmen from Republican leaders in the Pennsylvania legislature.

In a typical response, Jason Gottesman, a spokesman for House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff told PennLive that he was unaware an FBI presence at the state capitol and that he would not comment even if he was.

“I am unaware of any FBI presence in the Capitol or Leader Benninghoff’s office yesterday,” Gottesman said. “To the extent House members or staff may have been contacted by the FBI, we would not comment on a potential or ongoing investigation.”

The anonymous sources did tell PennLive, however, that the legislators receiving subpoenas were not themselves the targets of the FBI’s investigation, and suggested that the investigation “centered around U.S. Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa.,” who was said to have advised President Trump in advance of Jan. 6, 2021.

“The primary focus on Perry . . . has been his connection to former Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Clark, [who] urged a plan to send letters asking legislatures in six states . . . asking them to call special sessions to review election fraud allegations and consider appointing alternate slates of electors that would award votes to Trump instead of Biden,” PennLive reported.

Perry, however, has issued a statement in which he claims that he has been told that he is not under investigation.

“In a discussion with the DOJ, my attorneys were informed that I’m not a target of its investigation,” Perry wrote.

Perry had earlier described the seizure of his phone as an example of “banana republic tactics.”

Perry is currently running for re-election against Democrat Shamaine Daniels.
