Caitlyn Jenner Mulls Run for Governor in California

Would reportedly run as a Republican...

Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce, is mulling a run for California governor, looking to unseat Governor Gavin Newsom in a potential recall election, according to reports by Axios and The Hill.

Jenner, an Olympic medalist and decathlon record-setter when he identified as a male, came out as transgender in 2015, adopting the name “Caitlyn.”

The former reality TV star is now discussing with Republican political consultants and fundraisers to plan a potential campaign.

Newsom has received heavy criticism for his handling of the coronavirus in California, locking the state down for extended periods while ignoring his own regulations.

California Republicans have also criticized Newsom for his lackluster immigration and tax policies.

As a result, Californians may elect to recall the Governor, leaving his seat open to challengers.

Recall Gavin 2020 has gained substantial momentum in recent months. The Republican National Committee has even invested $250,000 to help recall efforts.

The recall effort has also secured more than 1.5 million signatures.

Newsom’s administration has repeatedly emphasized that he will resist recall efforts.

“We’re gonna take this extremely seriously … we’re gonna get ready — and fight like hell,” Newsom strategist Sean Clegg said.

Jenner’s entry into the race could bring with it significantly more media attention.

The former Olympian previously expressed support for former President Donald Trump, but has since expressed disappointment with his LGTBQ policies, calling him “the worst president we have ever had.”

Nevertheless, it appears that Jenner will run as a Republican, given his connections to GOP fundraiser Caroline Wren.

A Republican has not won a gubernational election in California since then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger defeated Democrat challenger Gray Davis in a recall election.

If he runs, Jenner would join two other Californians in challenging Newsom: former San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer and former Congressman Doug Ose.
